Ryndellian sector

When the Clone Wars broke out in 22 BBY, the sector was in Republic hands, in close proximity to Confederate space. In the second year of the war, the Ryndellia system hosted the Battle of the Ryndellia system and the Battle of the Kaliida Nebula due to a Separatist attempt to destroy an important medical station with their new superweapon, the Malevolence. The sector would not see more incursions in the conflict.

In 4 ABY, a secondary force of Nagai raiders advanced along the Triellus Trade Route, reaching as far as Iskalon. The Thrawn campaign of 9 ABY also saw Imperial fleets conquering the sector and moving towards Svivren and Darkknell. The region remained untouched by the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Swarm War and the Second Galactic Civil War and came under the rule of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire by 137 ABY.

Description

The Ryndellian sector was located in the galactic south, in the Mid Rim portion of the Trailing Sectors, along the Triellus Trade Route. It contained at least four systemsFarstine, Regulgo and Ryndellia—and the planets Ryndellia, Farstine, Ninzam VI and Kaliida Shoals. It was bordered by the Iskin sector at its coreward boundary, with the other neighbors being—clockwise—the Far Xandil, Vendusii, Cadavine, Juris, Sanbra and Alui sectors, respectively.

The Triellus Trade Route—the most notable trade route of the Outer Rim Territories—passed through the sector, entering from the Cadavine sector and ending west at Enarc in the Alui sector. The Five Veils Route branched off the Triellus at Farstine, heading towards the Juris sector and eventually reaching Svivren, its terminus. At the southern boundary of the sector, near the Ryndellia system was the Kaliida Nebula, stretching into the Outer Rim.

Circa 25 ABY, most of the population was concentrated along the Triellus route, with averagely 100 million to 500 million inhabitants living on inhabited worlds along the corridor. The average population on planets in the immediate vicinity of Farstine and on Farstine itself was 500 million to 1 billion. In some other areas of the sector, this number could go as low as 1 million to 10 million or 10 million to 100 million.

Exploration and Galactic Republic

The tract of space containing the territory of the future zone was explored between 3000 BBY and 1000 BBY, though most of the neighboring Chommell sector had been known by the year 5500 BBY. It became part of the Galactic Republic by 1000 BBY and some of its territory became unaligned in the New Sith Wars.

Following the Invasion of Naboo, Queen Padmé Amidala and her escort raced across the sector towards Tatooine to avoid Trade Federation pickets.

With the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, the territory of the Ryndellian sector, which the Republic regained by then, became close to Confederate space. The same year, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker traveled along the Triellus Trade Route to investigate the truth behind the Force visions of her mother's torture. In the second year of the war, the Ryndellia system and the neighborhood of Kaliida Shoals were the site of two battles between the Galactic Republic—whom the area was aligned to—and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Malevolence, a Separatist heavy cruiser armed with two ion pulse cannons, attempted to destroy a key Republic medical center treating 60,000 injured clone troopers, but failed due to the efforts of Anakin Skywalker and Shadow Squadron. The region would not experience more battles in the war.

In 19 BBY, the Separatist Council was temporarily relocated to Utapau, traveling through the region in the process. Later, Bail Organa's ship—the Tantive IV—also crossed the area while en route from Kashyyyk to pick up Obi-Wan Kenobi outside the Utapau system. Kenobi also traversed it while transporting the newborn Luke Skywalker from Polis Massa to Tatooine.

Galactic Empire and beyond

By 0 ABY, the Ryndellian sector had been in existence. In 3 ABY, the Sith Lord Darth Vader's task force, Death Squadron, passed through the system when it was moving from Qeimet to Hoth to rout the Rebel forces present there. A year later, the bounty hunter Boba Fett sped across the Ryndellian to deliver a carbonite–entombed Han Solo to Tatooine after outwitting a team of hunters in the Vergesso Asteroids.

Nagai raiders advanced along the Triellus Trade Route in 4 ABY as part of the Nagai–Tof War, passing through the sector and getting as far as Iskalon. Five years later, Grand Admiral Thrawn's forces launched attacks on Darkknell and Svivren from here, capturing the sector in the process. No battles were fought in the region during the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Swarm War and the Second Galactic Civil War.

By 137 ABY, the sector was controlled by Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.

Draag

The Draag were reptilian humanoids native to the planet Ninzam VI. Due to their cold-blooded biology, they were forced to wear temperature-regulating body suits when leaving their homeworld. Members of the species were bipedal, had four nostrils and horns.

Immigrated species

The Galactic Republic established the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center for clone troopers injured during the Clone Wars. This station cured 60,000 Human patients in 21 BBY, and was overseen by the Kaminoan doctor Nala Se. The same year, the Confederate general Grievous—a Kaleesh who had been reconstructed as a cyborg after a shuttle accident secretly orchestrated by Count Dooku—launched an assault on the facility with his superweapon, the Malevolence, but the attack ended with his defeat.

Behind the scenes

The Ryndellian sector first appeared in an extra map of Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion on StarWars.com. The map had been drafted by Modi, the chief mapmaker of The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace.
