Scythe (Phi-class)

Description

The Scythe was a Phi-class shuttle of the Inquisitorius, the Galactic Empire's group of Jedi hunters. The sleek starship was named for the Sith that the Inquisitors served and boasted harsh angles and an intimidating frame. It had a hyperdrive and was armed with a pair of laser cannons.

Role

Under the Dark Lord of the Siths Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, the Inquisitors flew the Scythe as their command ship. The vessel not only ferried Inquisitors back to their fortress on the moon Nur but also struck fear into anyone who dared to shelter Jedi fugitives.

Rise of the Inquisitors

In 19 BBY, the Scythe was used to transport the Grand Inquisitor and former Jedi Knight Iskat Akaris to Bar'leth to retrieve Jedi and Sith artifacts from the shopkeeper Gamodar. The was a success and the two returned in the vessel to Coruscant.

Sometime later, Akaris used the shuttle to visit her homeworld of Pkori. She and a contingent of Purge Troopers later used the ship as transportation to Firrhana during a hunt for Jedi.

Hunt for Kenobi

In 9 BBY, the Scythe traveled to Tatooine, carrying the Grand Inquisitor, Third Sister, and Fifth Brother, who were hunting for the Jedi Nari.

Later, during the Third Sister's hunt for Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Scythe ferried her to Nur's Fortress Inquisitorius, where she met with the Fourth Sister and Fifth Brother to discuss her plan to lead a hunt for Kenobi, approved by Darth Vader. Later, the Third Sister, holding the title of Grand Inquisitor, used the transport during the attack on Jabiim.

The Scythe was first pictured in the form of concept art in the sizzle reel for the Obi-Wan Kenobi television released on Disney+ in November, 2021. It first appeared in the first episode of the series, which aired on May 26, 2022. It was first identified in a LEGO set depicting the transport.

The first scene that was shot with Moses Ingram, the actress who played the Third Sister, was her and the other Inquisitors stepping off of the Scythe on Tatooine. When the scene was filmed, a real ramp was used in front of a blue screen. Writer Joby Harold wanted the scene to have a western motif with three characters walking down the street as everyone is intimidated.
