Shimkif, along with her daughter, Frosif, would accompany an Agbui attempt to foment a civil war within the Chiss Ascendancy. This operation was spearheaded by another Agbui, Haplif, and the Agbui were under the authority of the Grysk agent Jixtus. During this mission, Haplif would attempt to manipulate a young Chiss couple, Yoponek and Yomie, into helping him infiltrate the higher echelons of Chiss society. Yoponek would make the Agbui aware of an ambitious Xodlak Councilor on the Chiss world of Celwis, Xodlak'uvi'vil (Lakuviv), and Haplif wished to use him in his attempt to start a Chiss civil war. Haplif attempted to get Yoponek to travel to Celwis to introduce the Agbui to Lakuviv, but Yomie would refuse, due to her desires to instead go to the Chiss world of Shihon to see the month-long Grand Migration. Yoponek, although intrigued by Haplif's proposal to meet an important historical figure before his rise to power, was partial to Yomie's desires. Since the Agbui were on a strict timetable set by Jixtus, they could not afford to wait an extra month to visit Celwis, so, Haplif and Shimkif would agree that something needed to be done about Yomie. Specifically, they tried to arrange a fake marriage ceremony between them in an attempt to soften Yomie's heart and to get her to agree to go to Celwis. This ceremony would not work, however, and the Agbui traveled to Shihon. On the way, Shimkif was made aware that Jixtus was awaiting the Agbui at Shihon, and she informed Haplif to prepare his documents.
On Shihon, Shimkif would work to disrupt the Grand Migration. In the days before, she researched the migration patterns and formulated a plan to disrupt them. Over the course of three days, she would poison some migration areas and planted extra food in other areas. She captured some birds and made them aware of the areas with extra food. Eventually, the birds would find out about the new area, which eventually disrupted the entire balance of the migration, thus ending it early. Satisfied, Shimkif would return to the Agbui ship, but Haplif would inform her that Yomie is determined to go see another migration on Shihon. Frustrated, Shimkif tells Haplif that it will be difficult to disrupt another migration without prior preparation, but they agree to find another way to interrupt Yomie's plans. At the Panopyl Mountains migration, Shimkif would once again leave the Agbui ship to disrupt the migration. However, this time, she was not able to do so. She instead poisoned Yomie with the venom of a greenstripe. Later, when Haplif tried to get Yomie to agree to go to Celwis, she would trick him into revealing the Agbui's telepathy abilities. Threatening to tell Yoponek, Haplif was forced to kill Yomie, and the Agbui disposed of her body as the Agbui on their journey to Celwis.
On Celwis, the Agbui would be stationed on the ranch of a local Xodlak yubal rancher, Xodlak'phr'ooa (Lakphro). One day, Frosif would be triggered by a Lakphro's daughter, Lakris, when she used a brass sealer to compel a growzer to come to her. Lakphro rushed over to Frosif to see if she was okay. Frosif attempted to telepathically touch Lakphro's head, but the rancher refused. Aboard the Agbui's ship, Frosif would inform Shimkif and Haplif about the interaction. Haplif would become frustrated at his inability to telepathically read Lakphro, and he and Shimkif decided to try to manipulate him by giving his wife, Lakansu, and Lakris a pair of their nyix brooches as an apology. A week later, Shimkif, along with Frosif and Haplif, would gift Lakansu and Lakris these brooches, and the Chiss would accept the gift.
Upon leaving Celwis, Shimkif would see Lakphro and Haplif engage in a fight. When it was apparent that Haplif was not going to live, Shimkif ordered the Agbui to leave him behind.
