Skip tracer

A skip tracer was a type of bounty hunter that specialized in debt collection. They operated as part detective, part spy, and part law enforcement officer. They would make use of informants and traditional detective work to track down their quarry in an effort to collect on a debt or have merchandise returned for their client. Most skip tracers preferred to avoid violence as property damage or medical care would eat into their commission, but were not above exerting pressure or threats of violence when necessary.
