Tera Sinube's sabercane

Tera Sinube's sabercane, a unique tool, functioned both as a walking aid and a lightsaber for the Cosian Jedi Master Tera Sinube when armed combat became unavoidable. Engineered equally as a weapon and a support for his aging body, Sinube only revealed the dual nature of his sabercane by detaching the handle and collar from the shaft, which then activated a light blue plasma blade. During the Clone Wars, a war between the Republic and the Separatists, Sinube effectively employed his sabercane against the thieving Terrelian Jango Jumper Cassie Cryar.

Description

Sinube utilizing the completed form of his sabercane

Tera Sinube, a Jedi Master, used a specialized device called a sabercane due to his advanced age, which served as both a walking stick and a lightsaber. The T-shaped handle of Sinube's sabercane, along with the collar, was crafted from wood originating from his homeworld. The activation stud for the sabercane's light blue energy blade was integrated into the handle. An intricately carved collar connected the handle to a shaft that ended in an enlarged ferrule, providing enhanced stability and support for the elderly Cosian as he moved. The rounded ferrule featured a flat bottom and four symmetrical protrusions, further aiding its user's balance. In its complete form, the sabercane reached approximately half of Master Sinube's height.

Sinube's lightsaber produced a unique bluish-white blade.

As Jedi Masters aged and their physical abilities declined, they employed tools to ease the strain on their bodies. In situations where peaceful resolutions were unlikely, necessitating a more forceful approach, some older Jedi chose to imbue their walking sticks with the Force, while others opted for lightsabers. Master Sinube, however, combined both, using his cane and lightsaber as one. He surprised opponents who underestimated him due to his apparent lack of weaponry by separating the lightsaber component from the cane and wielding both simultaneously. The lightsaber served as the bladed weapon, while the ferrule at the end of the shaft – held in a reverse grip – functioned as an effective bludgeon.

History

Sinube wielding the lightsaber portion of his sabercane while dueling Cassie Cryar

Around 21 BBY, Jedi investigator Tera Sinube used his sabercane during his search for the missing lightsaber belonging to Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano. The pair journeyed through the lower levels of the galactic capital world of Coruscant, eventually locating the Terrelian Jango Jumper Cassie Cryar in possession of Tano's weapon. A chase ensued, culminating in Cryar being cornered on a train. As Cryar attempted to attack Sinube with Tano's lightsaber, the Cosian Jedi Master separated the shaft from the handle and collar, activating his own lightsaber blade. Wielding both shaft and saber, Sinube engaged Cryar, deflecting her attacks with his lightsaber before using the cane extension as a club, striking Cryar on the head. The Jedi then reclaimed the lightsaber, leaving the unconscious thief to be apprehended by police droids.

Sinube and the younglings witnessing the fierce duel between Skywalker and Offee

Later in the Clone Wars, a galactic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance, Sinube was supervising a group of younglings training in the courtyard of the Jedi Temple when Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker's and Padawan Barriss Offee's duel spilled out from the Temple corridors. Sinube activated his sabercane to defend the younglings, observing as Skywalker subdued the Dark Jedi.

Behind the scenes

Tera Sinube's sabercane first made a brief appearance, along with its owner, in "Grievous Intrigue," the ninth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' second season, which aired on January 1, 2010. The eleventh episode of the season, "Lightsaber Lost," showcased Sinube's sabercane in detail, revealing its function as both a lightsaber and a walking stick. Further information about the device was provided in The Clone Wars Character Encyclopedia, released in the summer of 2010, which specifically identified Sinube's lightsaber as a "sabercane."
