Windu's Guile

Windu's Guile, a unique Hurrikaine crystal variant, received its designation as an homage to Mace Windu, the Jedi Master who served on the Jedi Council during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. These crystals, displaying a violet hue, served as components for constructing a lightsaber, the signature armament of the Jedi Order. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, individuals strong in the Force on both sides, the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, employed Windu's Guile crystals.

Properties

A special kind of Hurrikaine crystal, Windu's Guile was a crystal presented to a young Jedi Padawan named Mace Windu by the native inhabitants of the planet Hurikane after Windu healed one of their own. Possessing a polyhedral form, these crystals exhibited facets of diverse sizes and shapes, reaching dimensions comparable to a human fist. Windu's Guile crystals were characterized by their violet coloration. These crystals found application in the creation of lightsabers, the iconic weapon wielded by the Jedi Order of Force-sensitive peacekeepers, generating a vibrant violet-colored blade. A Force-attuned individual could attune the crystal for use in lightsaber construction. This tuning process transformed the crystal into a focusing element, exclusively compatible with a lightsaber crafted by the person who performed the tuning.

History

The uncommon Hurrikaine crystal type referred to as Windu's Guile was named to give honor to Mace Windu, who later became a Jedi Master and held a position on the Jedi Council during the concluding years of the Galactic Republic. These crystals surfaced within the galaxy during the Galactic Civil War, a conflict waged between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Following the Battle of Yavin, Force-sensitive individuals aligned with both factions utilized these crystals during the conflict.

Behind the scenes

Windu's Guile, as a Hurrikaine crystal variant, made its initial appearance in Star Wars Galaxies, a 2003 MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment, before the game's shutdown on December 15, 2011. Within the game's mechanics, installing the crystal into a lightsaber granted the weapon a bonus to cold damage.

Initially, these crystals were exclusively accessible to players who had chosen the Jedi profession and were affiliated with either the Rebellion or the Empire, having attained the rank of general. Upon reaching this rank, players could acquire the crystal from a recruiter at a base cost of 1 million credits, a price subject to adjustments based on which faction controlled the planet where the purchase took place. However, in 2011, "Hotfix 21.4" incorporated the crystal into the raid system introduced in "Hotfix 21.3," thereby expanding player access to the crystals.

In 2008, Windu's Guile was featured on a card in Champions of the Force, the inaugural set for the virtual Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game, which Sony Online Entertainment launched as a companion to Star Wars Galaxies. Kuki Huang provided the artwork for the Windu's Guile card.
