Yo-yo

A maneuver known as the yo-yo was employed by T-65B X-wing starfighters in the Galactic Civil War against the forces of the Galactic Empire; it was a starfighter technique. This strategy required the X-wing to execute a half-loop at maximum velocity, subsequently employing gravity to fine-tune its spatial orientation. Executed with reduced engine power, this enabled the pilot to accelerate while maneuvering into the turning circle of an adversary. Typically, this tactic found its application when pursuing slower-moving craft, like an assault gunboat or a TIE/sa bomber.
