"A Change of Command" is a brief narrative penned by Paul Sudlow, featured within The Jedi Academy Sourcebook. The story showcases Wedge Antilles ascending to the position of general, an event that occurs before the events of Star Wars: Dark Empire.
The narrative begins shortly after the evacuation of Coruscant which took place in 10 ABY. Wedge Antilles is summoned to the office of Admiral Gial Ackbar, situated aboard a Headquarters Frigate. Ackbar reveals that the Empire's unexpected assault on the capital resulted in the elimination of more than 60% of the New Republic Army's leadership. Consequently, numerous lower-ranking individuals are being elevated to higher positions to compensate for these losses. Ackbar proposes to elevate Antilles to the rank of general and integrate him into his command structure. Initially, Antilles declines, asserting that he could provide greater value by remaining as the leader of Rogue Squadron. Subsequently, they reach an agreement where Antilles is promoted, yet he retains his command over Rogue Squadron.
