Absanz was a desolate planet of the desert type, serving as the location of a factory owned by Sienar Fleet Systems. In pursuit of intelligence concerning Sienar's latest TIE model designs, the group known as the Spectres journeyed to Absanz. Their mission involved an attempt to abduct Dron Ryall, the chief designer; however, their escape necessitated him being released.
The surface of Absanz consisted of a flat, rocky desert landscape. The planet possessed a breathable atmosphere containing cloud cover.
Sienar Fleet Systems maintained a factory on Absanz, which later came under the control of the Galactic Empire. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the rebel group identified as the Spectres penetrated the factory complex. Their objective was to uncover details about new technological advancements, including bombs and advanced TIE prototypes.

While the rest of their team remained aboard the Ghost, Kanan Jarrus together with Garazeb Orrelios made entry into the factory. There, they encountered Dron Ryall, a primary designer for Sienar. The rebel operatives captured Ryall, intending to extract information from him. However, they were soon pursued by numerous stormtroopers. Jarrus and Orrelios managed to get Ryall onto a Sentinel-class landing craft, but cannon fire from an Imperial cruiser resulted in Ryall falling out of the ship. Although Orrelios caught Ryall, he made the decision to release him, averting the extensive destruction the Empire would unleash to recapture him.
Absanz was initially featured in "Secrets of Sienar," a comic authored by Martin Fisher, with illustrations by Eva Widermann, and published within Star Wars Rebels Magazine 13.
