AD-3

Aidee, also known as AD-3, functioned as the protocol droid companion of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, working alongside the astromech droid named LX-R5. Beq and AD-3 were close, and she was known for her comedic personality. Despite their strong relationship, AD-3 felt some jealousy towards Beq's connection to the Force, a power she could not access as a droid.

Biography

Serving Jedi Master Kelleran Beq was protocol droid AD-3, affectionately called Aidee. She joined him, along with astromech droid LX-R5, in supervising Padawans during their Jedi Trials.

Characteristics

AD-3 was a protocol droid programmed with a female personality. Although she and Master Beq were good friends, she experienced envy regarding his Force abilities, a power inaccessible to her as a droid. AD-3 frequently joked with Beq about his talent for utilizing the Force to move objects and close doors from a distance.

Behind the scenes

AD-3 was developed as a character for the StarWarsKids.com game show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge. Mary Holland provided her voice, while Gordon Tarpley, a veteran artist, droid builder, and member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, gave the character her physical presence. Holland and Tarpley coordinated their efforts to ensure that Tarpley's live performance was synchronized with Holland's vocal delivery. Cavan Scott was the author responsible for writing the short stories AD-3 told in each episode.

During a conversation on May 27, 2020 with The Star Wars Show host Anthony Carboni, Holland explained that her character provided Ahmed Best's Master Kelleran Beq with "someone who isn't so impressed by what they do that they lose all touch with reality and can't see other points of view." Best also described AD-3 as a confidante of Master Beq who could offer honest feedback "without any fear or hesitation." The showrunners and actors were mindful to portray AD-3 not as a "humble servant" but as an equal partner to Kelleran Beq.

Scott Bromley, the co-creator of Jedi Temple Challenge, revealed that AD-3's nickname was designed to resemble "Aidee," a feminine name that matched her voice actress. The initials "GT" and "MH," representing her designer and performer Gordon Tarpley and voice actor Mary Holland respectively, are inscribed on AD-3's ankles.
