Agave-class picket ship

The Agave-class picket ship served as a tactical and operational reconnaissance vessel, manufactured as part of the New Class Modernization Program under the authority of the New Republic. These ships were deployed ahead of the main battle formations by task force commanders, performing either covert scouting missions or reconnaissance in force. They were assigned to the New Republic Fifth Battle Group.

Characteristics

Picket ships of the Agave-class were outfitted with Class 1 hyperdrives, advanced sensor arrays, an effective stealth system, and high-powered shotgun hypertransceivers to transmit data back to the main fleet with a low probability of being detected. Certain vessels also possessed interdiction field generators, as evidenced by their use in the pursuit of the Teljkon Vagabond. Should detection occur, an Agave-class ship could execute a rapid jump to the safety of hyperspace. While the sublight engines of the Agave-class picket ship provided only moderate speed, they were adequate for engaging enemy patrols.

Reflecting the New Class emphasis on efficiency, the fundamental hull design and core systems of the Agave-class were also utilized in the construction of the Warrior-class.

Behind the scenes

The sole official depiction of the Agave-class picket ship can be found within the RPG sourcebook titled Cracken's Threat Dossier. Similar to the visual representations of other New Class ships, this image contradicts details presented in the Black Fleet Crisis novels, which served as the basis for Cracken's Threat Dossier. The Warrior and Agave-classes bear little resemblance to one another, despite the claim that they share a common hull.
