Akar Kesh, also known as the Temple of Balance, was one of the nine temples belonging to the Je'daii Order that were situated on the lush world of Tython. Constructed on top of a very tall, pillar-shaped rock, Akar Kesh served as the Order's school, where students were taught to understand and maintain equilibrium in the Force.
When the thinkers and academics from across the galaxy initially made their way to Tython, they arrived from distant star systems aboard colossal, pyramid-shaped constructs referred to as the Tho Yor. These nine enormous vessels dispersed across the planet, each landing in a different location, and released their passengers to inhabit the world. The Tho Yor structures themselves then functioned as the base for the newcomers' residences and centers of learning.
The largest of these nine Tho Yor ships remained at the central meeting point, suspended above an outdoor temple where the Je'daii Order instructed their members in balance through self-examination and meditation. The temple consisted of a simple, flat area marked by eight substantial minaret structures. At its center was a round pool of water, around which lessons were conducted, and Je'daii Masters shared their philosophical views on the equilibrium between Ashla and Bogan: the light and dark side of the Force. The Je'daii Temple Master, the Je'daii who acted as the caretaker of the temple and managed its operations, was often regarded as the most knowledgeable of all the Masters. In 25,793 BBY, Master Ketu, a Human, was the designated supervisor of the Temple.
The summit and the surrounding plant life around the temple, as depicted in Dawn of the Jedi 0, bear a resemblance to the scenery found in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which is well-known for its rock formations that resemble pillars.
