Aquella, situated within the Senex sector of the Mid Rim, was a planet. Back in 3643 BBY, an aristocrat from Aquella offered precious goods as a wedding gift for anyone willing to marry his relative. Human settlers once colonized Aquella; however, their settlement was considered lost by the time the Senex-Juvex area fell under the control of the aristocratic Ancient Houses. The Aquellans, who were the descendants of those original colonists, had a culture well-known for its rituals that involved dyeing and tattooing the bodies of their young males.
Located in the Aquella system within the Senex sector, Aquella was a dim, terrestrial world. This Senex-Juvex region was part of the Western Reaches section of the Mid Rim. A hyperlane connected it to the Rulaar system.
Around 3643 BBY, an aristocrat living on Aquella promised a valuable dowry to anyone who would marry his cousin. During the ongoing struggle between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, someone affiliated with one side dispatched a companion to steal the dowry at the wedding. The companion grabbed the valuables as soon as they were presented, but the marriage still occurred.
During the final years of the Cold War, King Lorro, a Nautolan, represented Aquella. General Arkos Rakton of the Imperial forces held Lorro captive to force him to support the Sith Empire. However, a Nautolan diplomat named Helik secretly aided the Commander of Havoc Squad in reaching Outpost 256, where Lorro and other heads of state were imprisoned, so the commander could rescue them from their Imperial captors.
Human colonists once colonized Aquella, but that colony was eventually lost to time. After the aristocratic Ancient Houses became the rulers of the Senex-Juvex region after the Battle of Ruusan in 1000 BBY, Aquella came under the control of the new lords of the Senex sector. Wermyn, an native of Aquella, was a descendant of the original colonists. He underwent a traditional rite of passage ceremony on his homeworld at a young age by 11 ABY.
An elderly aristocrat was living on Aquella around 3643 BBY. At some point, a Human colony was founded on Aquella, but it eventually disappeared. The descendants of this colony, called the Aquellans, were known for their language, a guttural tongue thought to be related to an ancient language from Corulag in the Core Worlds. Another distinctive aspect of Aquellan culture was their rite of passage, which involved ritually dyeing and tattooing the bodies of young males, sometimes to such an extent that the Aquellan man looked more like a Near-Human than a baseline Human.
Aquella was initially mentioned in The Jedi Academy Sourcebook, a 1996 sourcebook written by Paul Sudlow for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed it in grid square L-17.
