The Ebon Hawk, piloted by the Jedi Exile, was able to escape the Peragus asteroid field thanks to the availability of drift charts. Simulations of asteroid movement, known as asteroid orbital drift charts, were computer programs that modeled the trajectories of objects within an asteroid field. These charts, held within a navigation computer, were an integral part of a starship's ability to astrogate, providing a safe path through the field.
The Peragus Mining Facility maintained constantly updated asteroid drift charts on its command console. These charts were used by the console to transmit data to approaching spacecraft, preventing collisions with asteroids and subsequent destruction in space. Before transmitting these charts, the Peragus console would automatically contact approaching vessels, typically freighters, to advise them to keep their distance and provide docking directions.
The Republic warship Harbinger arrived at the Peragus Mining Facility, where the Jedi Exile and her ship, the Ebon Hawk, were stranded. The Exile, along with her companions, Atton Rand and Kreia, infiltrated the Harbinger. They then acquired the Peragus asteroid field drift charts from the warship's navicomputer, transferred them to the Ebon Hawk, and successfully fled the area.
