Asteroid slalom

Asteroid slalom was a competition where drivers piloted specialized vehicles, navigating the terrain of minor asteroids to utilize them as launchpads for executing rapid turns and impressive eye-catching maneuvers. The sport experienced a surge in fame during the initial years of the Galactic Empire's reign. This upswing in popularity led Roche Machines, a Verpine vehicle manufacturer, to develop the V-4 series of ski speeders, including the V-4X-D ski speeder, specifically tailored for those participating in this sport.

The widespread interest in asteroid slalom came to an abrupt end when an unnoticed stone mite outbreak at the Orleon Belt Grand Slalom Finals led to multiple racers and their vehicles being consumed while the competition was being broadcasted live to a shocked audience across the galaxy. Following this horrific event, bookings for asteroid slalom events decreased significantly, causing Roche Machines to cease production of its ski speeders and sell off the remaining inventory at a discounted rate.

Behind the scenes

The initial mention of asteroid slalom occurred in the 2017 reference book titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Incredible Cross-Sections, authored by Jason Fry.
