Asturias, situated in the Expansion Region, was once a manufacturing moon. However, by the time the Clone Wars erupted, it had been completely abandoned. The radiation levels, caused by its sun's transformation into a red giant, became far too dangerous for both organic and robotic beings to endure for extended periods. The landscape, covered in sand, was dotted with the decaying remains of ships and structures.

During the conflict, Director Lorca Oviedo attempted to switch his allegiance to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. His plan involved orchestrating an assault on himself and his clone commando protectors both near and on the lunar surface. Despite the clone commandos' skill, the scheme ultimately failed, resulting in the death of all but one commando. The surviving commando, known as Zag, successfully escaped the moon with Oviedo in tow.
The Principality of Asturias, a region located in Spain, is home to the city of Avilés. Ian Edginton drew inspiration for the name in "Honor Bound" from his visit to the Salón del Cómic de Avilés, a Spanish Comic Con. Other names, such as Lorca Oviedo and Aviles Prime, were also influenced by Edginton's trip.
