RC-2088, also known as Zag, served as a Clone commando and sergeant within an unidentified clone commando team. Following the battlefield deaths of his original squad members, he found a new assignment with Aiwha Squad.
During the Clone Wars, RC-2088's team received orders to safeguard Lorca Oviedo as he traveled to a conference on Aviles Prime. They accompanied him aboard their CR25 troop carrier. Oviedo, a key industrialist aligned with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, had secured a contract to produce and supply weaponry for the Grand Army of the Republic. This arrangement was part of a scheme orchestrated to reveal Republic troop strength and deployment details to Wat Tambor.
On the return journey from Aviles Prime, Oviedo's Republic Cruiser reported a critical failure in its life support systems, forcing the cruiser and its clone escort to exit hyperspace. They emerged near Asturias, an abandoned factory moon, with the intention of repairing Oviedo's vessel. However, immediately after exiting hyperspace, a droid control ship launched an assault, inflicting severe damage on both ships and causing them to crash on Asturias. Out of the eighteen clones aboard the CR25, only seven survived the crash. Determined to fulfill their mission, they proceeded to the crash site of Oviedo's ship, where they uncovered a startling truth: the ship was undamaged, had not crashed, and its life support systems had never malfunctioned. The crew had been murdered, and the clones discovered footprints belonging to B1-series battle droids and a single human, leading away from the ship.
Tracking the footprints, they found Oviedo communicating with Wat Tambor via hologram. The Separatist attack was a staged event, designed to create the impression that Oviedo had been captured rather than defecting from the Republic. Believing all the clones to be dead, the commandos exploited the element of surprise to eliminate the B1 droids and capture Oviedo. Subsequently, they faced a series of relentless attacks while attempting to return to Oviedo's shuttle, battling B1 and B2 super battle droids, Droidekas, and Vulture droids, suffering casualties along the way. During one assault, RC-2088's helmet was dislodged, resulting in severe facial scarring, but he succeeded in getting Oviedo onto the ship and escaping to Coruscant. Tragically, Oviedo died under mysterious circumstances after landing.
Later, RC-2088 reported the mission's outcome to Jedi Master Yoda and Mace Windu, who praised his efforts and assured him that his comrades' sacrifice would be remembered. After his departure, Yoda expressed concerns about the unwavering loyalty of RC-2088 and all clones to the Jedi.

Subsequently, 2088 was integrated into Aiwha Squad and participated in the Battle of Garqi in 19 BBY. Following the accidental destruction of a Garqian farmhouse by clones, RC-2088 and other clones were dispatched to rescue any survivors. His squad discovered a young boy named Evan. After returning the boy to the Republic outpost, Jedi Master Traavis commended the clones for their rescue and informed them of the death of General Grievous, indicating the war's imminent end. Abruptly, the clones received Order 66 and executed Traavis, confirming Yoda's fears about the clones' loyalty.
Zag typically wore Katarn-class commando armor. However, on occasion, he donned a modified version of the cupid clone trooper armor. This variant featured white gauntlets, leg armor, and chest armor, complemented by green fore-arm armor, shoulder armor, waist armor, and shin armor, a white and green helmet with a yellow visor, and distinctive dark wing-like ornaments extending from the backpack.
The clone was initially identified as "R.C. Sergeant Theta Twenty-eight-eight" in "Honor Bound." Later, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia clarified his designation as "RC-2088" and established him as the clone "Zag" who appeared in Orders.
The Star Wars Tales issue that included Honor Bound was re-released in January 2008 as part of the Action Figure Comic Packs series. This pack contained two action figures: a Super Battle Droid and an unnamed Republic Commando, potentially RC-2088 himself.

The commando figure utilizes the same mold as those of Scorch and the Delta Squad seven-figure pack. The pack itself can be viewed at StarWarsShop.com
