The ATL (Air-to-Land) Interceptor was a starfighter crafted by the Incom Corporation in the time leading up to the Galactic Civil War. This craft served as the precursor to the New Republic's Defender starfighter.
The Fromm Gang utilized ATL Interceptors for the defense of Trigon One in 15 BBY. They were also deployed for short-range planetary defense roles.
Later, the Republic Engineering Corporation leveraged the ATL Interceptor's design to produce the Defender starfighter for the New Republic as part of the Defender initiative. The Defender starfighter was put into service relatively swiftly following the Battle of Endor and saw action in both atmospheric and short-range space defense scenarios.

The ATL Interceptor seen in the animated television program Star Wars Droids originated from one of the final toys in the Kenner Star Wars product line, specifically the ATL Interceptor. It was initially conceived as the Death Star Defender, intended for inclusion in the Return of the Jedi toy line. The same design was subsequently adapted by West End Games in their RPG adventure The DarkStryder Campaign for the creation of the Defender starfighter.
