The assault targeting Vader transpired on Mustafar between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, a planet where the Force Wave event occurred and the scourge of the droids conflict unfolded. During this time, the Scourge managed to corrupt an octuptarra tri-droid originating from the defunct Techno Union droid factory. After an unsuccessful effort to corrupt Vader while he was aboard his Star Dreadnought, the [Executor], the Scourge seized control of ZED-6-7, a droid serving the Sith Lord Darth Vader (the Scourge's actual target). Subsequently, the Scourge, employing both ZED and the octuptarra, launched an attack against Vader and his other droid attendants. Throughout this conflict, Vader was able to concentrate on his self-loathing, thereby regaining his control over the Force. This was a power he had difficulty wielding ever since the Force Wave's resurgence. With his command over the Force restored, Vader proceeded to obliterate both the corrupted octuptarra and the corrupted ZED. ZED was later reconstructed.
