Az-Iban was an unusual smuggler who piloted the Rampaging Ranat, which was a YT-2400 light freighter. Iban's companion and second-in-command was Picaroon C. Boodle, a Force-sensitive Kowakian monkey-lizard, until Eriadu's authorities put Pic into quarantine, claiming he was infected with Cyborrean rabies.
Az-Iban was a secretive individual, and he kept his routes hidden from his rivals. Regrettably for him, this made it simple for Morturr Heth, a Disac pirate, along with four other survivors from that fleet to commandeer his ship, steal his identity, and take over his crew. Az-Iban's fate remains unclear, but it's highly probable that he met his demise.
The imposter Az-Iban later took part in a competition close to Novolek Beacon, which was organized by Mal Biron to identify the most adept smugglers for employment by Black Sun's vigo Sprax. The race's subsequent stage, near the Salin Corridor, involved meeting with the Destination: Adventure!, a lavish spaceliner. Heth and his crew, aided by other pirates strategically positioned nearby, then launched an assault on the liner and the other competitors.
