Balam was a male character within the Gungan species' religion on the planetary body of Naboo. The legends say that Balam was the original Gungan warrior. When he experienced death, Oma-Oma, who was the head of the Gungan guds, brought him to Ossorus, an underwater city. Balam was given immortality by Oma-Oma, who transformed him into the god of battles so he could instruct the other guds in the ways of war.
Balam then proceeded to form Otoh-D'in, a secret paradise located in Naboo's swamps. Following their deaths, the most courageous Gungan militiagungs would arrive at this location and spend eternity engaging in combat and strategy games to occupy their time. The warriors of Otoh-D'in would be tasked with defending Ossorus should it ever be threatened.
The Gungan DataBank entry in the French version of the 2001 LucasArts Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds video game included a reference to Balam.
