Oma-Oma was considered the most important divinity within the religious beliefs of the Gungan race originating from the world of Naboo. It was thought that she was responsible for the creation of all living things on that planet, and that she also supervised other, less powerful deities, such as Dobbis and Gob Gobba.

Oma-Oma was a female goddess who held the position of leader among the guds and was venerated as the primary divinity in the religious beliefs of the Gungan race native to the world of Naboo. The belief was that she brought all life into existence on Naboo, and resided with the other guds within the magnificent subaquatic settlement of Ossorus. Given her purpose of originating all life on Naboo, Oma-Oma also oversaw lesser guds like Dobbis, the goddess associated with rain, and Gob Gobba, the god connected to fresh water sources.
The deity of ruin, Mekamok, existed outside the sphere of influence of Oma-Oma, and was shunned by the other guds, while he exerted control over death and decomposition on Naboo. According to the myths, Oma-Oma transformed the first Gungan fighter, Balam, into the deity of combat, bringing him to Ossorus to instruct the other guds in the arts of war. One Gungan clergyman felt that all members of the Gungan species needed to make an effort to be worthy of the gift of life that Oma-Oma provided.
Oma-Oma was referred to as "Boss" due to her position of power over the other guds, although she would only make decisions after discussing them with other major deities.
The initial mention of Oma-Oma occurred in the Gungan DataBank entry found within the 2001 LucasArts computer game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. Her name could also be randomly selected as a leader for the Gungan civilization in the standard game mode.
