The Balmorran resistance, a coalition of Balmorran inhabitants and Galactic Republic military personnel, emerged during the Cold War with the express purpose of expelling the Sith Empire from their homeworld.
Following the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, control of Balmorra was ceded to the Sith Empire. As a consequence, all Republic military assets remaining on the world after the Great Galactic War were mandated to evacuate; however, a contingent managed to remain covertly. These troops united with Balmorran locals to establish the Balmorran Resistance movement, with the primary objective of terminating the Imperial presence on Balmorra.
The Resistance engaged in guerilla warfare operations directed against the Imperial occupation force. These strategies were employed by both soldiers and ordinary civilians. This complicated the Empire's efforts to identify Resistance members, as potential recruits could be anyone. Thousands of these individuals also utilized perilous and concealed sites, unlikely to arouse Imperial suspicion, for clandestine meetings and training, further impeding detection.
A segment of the Balmorran populace dissented from the Resistance's agenda, perceiving abandonment by the Republic and advocating acceptance of the Empire and its appointed governor, Darth Lachris. Conversely, members of the Resistance demonstrated unwavering resolve to eradicate the Imperial presence, even at the cost of their lives.
