The banshee bird was a type of avian creature that possessed winged appendages. A brass representation of a banshee bird, with its wings spread wide, was affixed to the central part of the Corellian Cross. This medal was created to honor the contributions of the planet of Corellia to the Alliance to Restore the Republic and was bestowed as the second most prestigious award given by the Alliance.

Within the current canon of Star Wars, the banshee bird received a mention in the Lead by Example sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying game. This book was released by Fantasy Flight Games in 2016 for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game system. The Corellian banshee bird initially appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity, specifically in the 2001 novel Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, penned by Michael Reaves. Subsequently, Lead by Example retconned the creature depicted on the Corellian Cross, which initially appeared in Legends in the 1993 video game Star Wars: X-Wing, identifying it as a banshee bird.
