Barlex, a sergeant within the clone trooper ranks of the Republic, held the position of senior Non-commissioned officer (NCO) for Parjai Squad. His service occurred during the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. By the year 21 BBY, Barlex had cultivated a deep-seated aversion towards Mandalorians, stemming from the presence of numerous mercenaries fighting on the side of the Confederacy. He voiced this sentiment to the clone commandos of Omega Squad.
Barlex, a clone originating from Kamino and genetically based on the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. This conflict pitted the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. In the year 21 BBY, he functioned as a sergeant and the senior NCO within Parjai Squad, which belonged to the paratrooper unit known as the 2nd Airborne Company. This company was part of the larger 212th Attack Battalion of the 7th Sky Corps.
While traveling aboard the Republic auxiliary freighter Core Conveyor en route to the planet Gaftikar prior to their mission on Mirial, Barlex encountered the clone commandos of Omega Squad within the ship's hangar. Upon meeting the commandos, he made a sarcastic comment regarding their armor, which was equipped with winged jetpack. The clone commando Fi nearly struck Barlex when deploying his wings and attempted to lighten the mood with humor. However, the NCO remained serious and reminded the Mandalorian-trained commandos that individuals from their adopted culture were frequently found fighting as mercenaries for the Separatists. This remark created a tense atmosphere until the squad's Sergeant Niner subtly and informally reprimanded Fi. Barlex then departed without saying another word when Niner suggested contacting their Jedi commander, General Arligan Zey.
By the time of his encounter with Omega Squad, Barlex had grown tired of supporting special forces and had lost ten clone brothers to Mandalorians. Like other members of the 2nd Airborne, this experience led him to harbor intense animosity towards them and their culture. Consequently, he resented Omega Squad for their adoption of the Mandalorian mindset, directing several spiteful remarks towards them. However, he ceased the conversation and left abruptly when Niner proposed contacting General Zey, with Darman suspecting that the sergeant was holding back a final remark.
Being a clone of Jango Fett, Barlex was a human male with a height of 1.83 meters.
Barlex made his debut in the 2007 novel Republic Commando: True Colors, which is part of the Republic Commando series authored by Karen Traviss. Subsequently, in 2009, he received a mention in Imperial Commando: 501st, the concluding book of the series.
