Gaftikar, a planet situated in the Outer Rim, experienced a violent overthrow sometime prior to the Galactic War that pitted the Galactic Republic against the reconstituted Sith Empire. During this coup, the mercenary group known as the Brig Stompers annihilated the entirety of the planet's defensive forces.
During the Clone Wars, Omega Squad was based on Gaftikar for a period of time. The Battle of Gaftikar occurred there, beginning with an assault on Eyat, the capital city. Omega Squad theorized that the Republic's assault on the planet was driven less by the overall war effort or assisting the Marits, and more by currying favor with the Shenio Mining corporation, which sought to expand its economic influence over Gaftikar.
The planet's inhabitants were composed of reptilian Marits and Humans. Neither species originated on Gaftikar; instead, the Humans had employed the Marits, renowned for their mathematical prowess and natural skill as engineers, to construct their cities. Once the construction was finished, however, the Humans banished the Marits to the forests, resulting in minimal interaction between the two groups. The Humans harbored significant fear of the Marits, particularly due to the latter's numerical superiority, fearing a future uprising and takeover. In reality, the Marits only desired fair representation in the government and equal rights.
