Basilisk, located close to Coruscant, was situated in the Arrowhead region of the Slice and considered a Core World.
The Basiliskans, an intelligent species of lizard, called Basilisk home. These Basiliskans were the original creators of the Basilisk war droids, which were rumored to have been designed to resemble them. Around 4017 BBY, during their conflict with the Mandalorians, the Basiliskans resorted to chemically poisoning their own planet as a final measure to repel their invaders. Despite the arrival of Jedi and Republic reinforcements commanded by Sidrona Diath at the Battle of Basilisk, the Mandalorians triumphed, seizing control of the planet and enslaving the surviving Basiliskans.
Following the conclusion of the war, the Mandalorians discovered a novel application for the Basiliskans. Recognizing their robust hides, sharp claws suitable for training, and inherent intelligence, the Mandalorians repurposed them as combat assets for both aerial and ground engagements in subsequent conflicts. This exploitation led to the degradation of the Basiliskans, reducing them to mere beasts. Consequently, they were renamed the Lagartoz War Dragons.
During the period of the Jedi Civil War, another battle transpired over the control of the planet. The planet was fought over once again during the Clone Wars.
Sometime following the Battle of Endor, the New Republic captured the world.
