A significant conflict on Dxun represented one of the final engagements of the Mandalorian Wars preceding the ultimate showdown between the forces of the Republic and the Mandalorians at Malachor V. This siege happened at a pivotal moment in the war, with many Republic soldiers convinced that the outcome of this battle would dictate the war's conclusion.
Leading up to the battle, the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders had witnessed the systematic loss of their previously vast territories to the Republic military, under the command of Jedi Knight Revan. Although the war's momentum had shifted to the Republic's advantage, the Mandalorian stronghold within the Japrael system remained unconquered. The Republic needed to capture the enemy's Inner Rim base of operations on Dxun before they could advance against the Mandalorians along the Outer Rim.
Revan directed his troops to initiate a major offensive against the Mandalorian-controlled planet, an assault that would inflict heavy losses on the Republic. The Mandalorians had spent decades fortifying the moon, establishing deep defenses that included concealed minefields, booby traps, anti-aircraft batteries, and the native jungle's dangerous wildlife. Consequently, the battle became one of the most brutal and bloody of the war. After the fighting ceased, the jungle floor was covered with the remains of Republic soldiers and destroyed spacecraft. The Mandalorians claimed that the Republic "lost many of their forces taking Dxun. For every Mandalorian soldier who fell, the Republic paid with ten of theirs."
Jedi General Meetra Surik, later known as the Jedi Exile, participated in the battle. Revan's strategy involved launching numerous small-scale probing attacks to identify weaknesses in the Mandalorian defenses. Trusting in her commander's intricate strategy, Surik followed her orders, even as her unit was scattered and reduced to only a quarter of its original size. During a desperate charge across a minefield, most of her remaining troops were killed while attempting to attack the Mandalorian positions.

The Mandalorians staunchly defended their positions, and the Republic endured months of relentless, costly assaults to dislodge them from their fortifications. As the battle neared its end, Mandalore the Ultimate acknowledged the Republic's impending victory and ordered a withdrawal from their base. When the Republic forces finally stormed the fortress, only a small group of volunteers remained to defend its walls. Ultimately, Revan's military prevailed. Their victory secured Onderon and its satellite moon Dxun, setting the stage for the next phase of the war.
According to Canderous Ordo, "in the last months before Dxun fell, the old Mandalore knew that Revan and the Republic were gaining the upper hand." He instructed the most skilled Mandalorian engineers "to hide caches of weapons and munitions throughout the moon, safely away from enemy hands." The Republic later attempted to find and access these hidden caches, but their efforts were thwarted by the traps and other surprises left by Mandalore's forces. A decade later, these hidden weapons and supplies would prove invaluable to the Mandalorians serving Canderous—who had become the new Mandalore.
