The space battle known as the Battle of Koensayr 42 saw the forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic clash with those of the Galactic Empire amidst the vastness of space. The Empire was trying to disrupt the shipment of Y-wing starfighters produced by Koensayr Manufacturing at the Koensayr 42 Deep Space Manufacturing Facility to the escort carrier Eleusis. In response, the Eleusis deployed two squadrons of Z-95 Headhunters with the goal of protecting the starfighter factory.
The location of Koensayr 42, a deep-space facility manufacturing Y-wings, had been discovered by the Empire. Furthermore, Imperial Intelligence had determined that the Eleusis was scheduled to receive a shipment of Y-wings destined for Red Squadron. The Imperial attack was carefully planned so that two Gamma-class ATR-6 assault transports, escorted by a squadron of Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wings, would emerge from hyperspace on a course to intercept the facility at the same time as the Eleusis was waiting for the Y-wing delivery. Aboard the assault transports was a team of Imperial Special Operations personnel armed with a computer virus designed to take control of the Y-wings' flight systems, forcing them to ram the Eleusis. To infect the Y-wings' autopilot, at least one transport needed to dock with Koensayr 42 so that the slicers could directly upload the virus into the factory's central computer.
Even though the Rebels were not fully aware of the Imperials' plan, the Eleusis reacted to the arrival of the Imperial forces by launching its older Z-95s, Blue and Green Squadrons. These Rebel starfighters, tasked with protecting their carrier and the factory, moved to intercept the assault transports. If they sustained heavy losses, they may have called in at least one flight group of X-wings from Rogue Squadron for reinforcements.
In the computer game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, players can participate in the "Raid on Rebel Factory Koensayr 42" mission, fighting for either the Rebel or Imperial side. Because each side has different objectives, and victory is not required to advance to the next set of missions, the battle itself is considered canon, but the canonical outcome of the battle remains unknown.
The ships mentioned in this article are those present in the Operation: Clean Sweep battle, utilizing the default craft assigned to the player.
