Deep Space Manufacturing Facility

The Deep Space Manufacturing Facility, also known as the X7 Factory or the X-7 factory station, represented a standardized space-based manufacturing plant. These facilities were jointly produced by Kost & Ko Factories alongside the Telgorn Corporation.

Functionality

The central spire of the station housed crew living spaces and laboratories. Extending outward from this spire were four modules dedicated to storage and additional laboratory areas.

Defensive Systems

Recognizing the significant value of the manufactured goods, the X7's designers incorporated robust defenses to deter potential raiders. The station was protected by eight turbolaser turrets, providing near-complete coverage. Furthermore, a warhead launcher, typically armed with either eight proton torpedoes or ten concussion missiles, served to discourage attacks from starfighters.

X7 Factories included a specialized anti-warhead defense system. This system launched interceptor missiles to neutralize incoming enemy ordnance. Overwhelming this system required multiple waves of missile attacks. The effectiveness of this system led to its implementation on critical XQ Platforms, including Demetrius Zaarin's TIE Defender research facility located within the Parmel system.

Upon destruction, the X7's four modules would detach from the central hub, a process analogous to the separation of landing pads/docking arms from an XQ Platform.

Historical Context

During Admiral Zaarin's brief rebellion against Emperor Palpatine, his strategy shifted to targeting X7 Factories in the Omar system after his coup failed. These factories were crucial for the production of the TIE Avenger starfighter. Zaarin utilized a force comprising TIE/IN interceptors, TIE/sa bombers, and assault transports, supported by an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate (although the mission depicted a Nebulon-B2 frigate). While Zaarin's initial strike caught loyalist forces by surprise, Imperials under the command of Maarek Stele successfully evacuated personnel and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers before the three Avenger factories were destroyed.

ZA-13, responsible for manufacturing the Avenger's hyperdrive, was successfully retaken from Zaarin. After receiving equipment via a supply convoy, it was repurposed for full-scale Avenger production. However, it was subsequently destroyed by another attack from the traitor Admiral, effectively ending any prospects of widespread TIE Avenger deployment.

Ali Tarrak commissioned her Nami species to construct a TIE Defender manufacturing facility. This facility was heavily defended by a minefield of Type Cs and Defender starfighters. Admiral Thrawn, operating from his flagship Grey Wolf, launched a coordinated two-pronged assault on Tarrak's facility. A Missile Boat piloted by Maarek Stele played a critical role in clearing the minefield, neutralizing the Defenders, and destroying the station's anti-warhead launcher, which enabled TIE/sa bombers to obliterate the factory.

Production Notes

  • The Kost & Ko company is identified as the manufacturer of the X7 Factory in the tech-room statistics for both TIE Fighter and X-wing vs. TIE Fighter. However, X-wing Alliance credits the Telgorn Corporation as the manufacturer.

  • While Star Wars: TIE Fighter introduced the XQ Platform space station, the X7 Factory was not featured until the Defender of the Empire expansion. For Tour of Duty 3 Mission 1, a collection of cargo containers was used to represent the derelict manufacturing facility at Argoon.
