During the Mandalorian Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, the two sides clashed on the planet called Ord Mantell. In the year 3963 BBY, the Mandalorians initiated a full-scale assault on Republic territory, dividing their forces into three separate invasion routes. One of these groups advanced through the Zongorlu system towards Ord Mantell, achieving victory there before proceeding to seize the world of Iridonia.
In the year 3963 BBY, after many years of preliminary skirmishes during the early stages of the Mandalorian Wars, the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders commenced a large-scale invasion of Galactic Republic territory. Their initial action involved capturing the planet of Taris, after which they split their forces to create three separate avenues of attack into Republic space. One of these paths saw Mandalorians traversing the Zongorlu system, where they were victorious in a battle. This group then divided, with some heading to assault the arboreal planet of Ithor, while others moved to attack Ord Mantell, a significant Republic Ordnance/Regional Depots. Around this time, the Zabrak colonies located in the Outer Rim Territories also faced harassment and subjugation by the Mandalorians.
Subsequent to their triumph on Ord Mantell, the Mandalorians continued their campaign and moved to capture the world of Iridonia.
In 24 ABY, Vilnau Teupt, a historian, made reference to the battle of Ord Mantell within a summary of the Mandalorian Wars. This occurred during his keynote address given at the 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History, where he discussed the evolution of the Mandalorian people.
The battle's initial mention was in The Essential Atlas. Rather than a prose description, it was indicated on a galactic map illustrating the progression of the Mandalorian Wars. The Atlas identified the Bright Jewel system as the "Ord Mantell system", named after the planet Ord Mantell situated within it. Later, in 2012's The Essential Guide to Warfare, it was specified that the battle occurred directly on the planet's surface.
