A theme, composed by John Williams, was created for the 2015 movie Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. This leitmotif figure, representing Kylo Ren, can also be heard in "The Emperor's Theme," and is inverted in "Rey's Theme."
The theme's debut occurs when Kylo Ren initially appears in The Force Awakens, specifically during the First Order's attack targeting Tuanul. This musical theme is present in various segments of the movie, notably in tracks like "Main Title and The Attack on the Jakku Village" in addition to "Kylo Ren Arrives at the Battle."
When crafting the theme for Kylo Ren, Williams envisioned it as an evolution of Darth Vader's theme, "The Imperial March," while ensuring it maintained its distinctiveness. His goal was for the theme to immediately communicate Ren's malevolent power, his formidable strength, and the danger he embodies to the viewers.
Williams also wrote a light side version of the theme for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, symbolizing Ben Solo's redemption and return to the light side of the Force.
