Bluebarb wasps were beings capable of stinging, leading to swelling and poisoning in those they attacked. The venom they produced, characterized by a pungent and foul odor, negatively impacted a human's breathing, inducing severe coughing. During his youth, the Duros named Shriv Suurgav once stumbled into a bluebarb wasp nest and suffered multiple stings to the face. He later received antivenin to counteract the effects of the stings.
Before the year 22 BBY, a Clawdite disguised as the collector known as Sinvatt Bovic employed a blowgun to fire a dart laced with the wasp's venom at the bounty hunter Jango Fett. The dart struck Fett under his jaw while he was working at Bovic's residence on the celestial body Fytoun. The poison then infiltrated Fett's bloodstream, leading to coughing and labored breathing. Fett managed to find antivenin, which his partner, Zam Wesell, administered to him. After drinking it, he recovered from the poisoning.
The initial reference to bluebarb wasps appeared in Resistance Reborn, a novel penned by Rebecca Roanhorse and released in 2019.
