The Boadil family held a position as one of the Nine Ruling Families within the structure of the Chiss Ascendancy. They were in fierce competition with the Great Droc family, and maintained alliances with the Ruling families of Irizi and Ufsa.
A luxury passenger liner owned by the Boadil family became ensnared within the upper atmosphere of a gas giant located in Chiss Ascendancy territory. The liner's Captain, an individual from the Ufsa family, put the vessel in danger, but Junior Commander Mitth'raw'nuru and his patrol ship, the Boco, executed a rescue. Thrawn preserved the lives of the 8,000 Chiss passengers by jettisoning the liner's luxury wings, which reduced the vessel's mass sufficiently to allow the Boco and Parala's tractor beam projectors to secure it. While the Boadil family resented the loss of their property, family politics prevented them from seeking retribution from the Ufsa family or unfairly blaming Mid Captain Irizi'ar'alani's Irizi family. Consequently, they aimed to censure and demote Junior Commander Thrawn, which resulted in him losing command of the Boco.
Boadil'par'gasoi, a diplomat, was a member belonging to the Boadil family.
According to Haplif of the Agbui, the Boadil family appeared to shift their alliances and loyalties with other Chiss families based on necessity, inclination, or "possibly just the current solar cycle".
The Boadil family initially appeared in the 2020-published novel titled Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, which is the first installment in The Ascendancy Trilogy authored by Timothy Zahn.
