The yearly Boonta Speeder Race was a speeder competition that occurred on the world of Boonta. It was held two days following the Boonta Eve Classic podrace on Tatooine. Yenchara, a Hutt belonging to the Desilijic kajidic, initiated the race. His goal was to boost profits by offering an alternative to the podrace, one in which Humans were permitted to participate.

The racetrack was a lengthy, curving oval tunnel spanning approximately sixteen kilometers. Besides the general seating for spectators, there were also several private viewing boxes, equipped with large screens, reserved for VIPs. In 15 BBY, Admiral Screed observed the race from one of these exclusive areas.
In that same year, the team consisting of Thall Joben, Jord Dusat, and Kea Moll emerged victorious, despite interference from the Fromm Gang and Boba Fett. Sise Fromm had hired them to assassinate the young racers.
BL-17, Boba Fett's droid, had previously attempted to ensnare them. It befriended C-3PO as a means to lure them into a trap. However, Proto One and R2-D2 exposed and thwarted the droid's plan. Joben participated in the race, but Fett pursued him in the Silver Speeder. Fett attempted to eliminate Joben by using a magnetic weapon to draw the White Witch closer. Unbeknownst to Fett, Tig Fromm had placed a thermal detonator on the White Witch, timed to detonate at the race's conclusion. Regrettably for Fett, the weapon attracted the thermal detonator instead of the Witch, resulting in the destruction of Fett's speeder and nearly costing him his life. In frustration, Fett apprehended Sise Fromm, Vlix Oncard, and Tig Fromm on Boonta, subsequently handing them over to Jabba the Hutt.

Following their victory, Dusat, Moll, and Joben were recruited as speeder designers by Zebulon Dak himself for the Zebulon Dak Speeder Corporation. R2-D2 and C-3PO, keen not to impede this professional opportunity, ejected themselves from the planet aboard an escape pod.
