Bornaryn Trading was established during the Galactic Civil War by the husband-and-wife team of Bornan Thul and Aryn, who were its joint owners. Following Bornan's passing in 24 ABY, Aryn took over as the sole proprietor of the business, with assistance from Bornan's sibling Tyko in managing the company's affairs.
Before the onset of the Swarm War, Bornaryn Trading secured a majority share in Industrial Automaton, the well-established manufacturer of droids, after the introduction of the R9-series astromech droid by that manufacturer. As the company expanded during the war, it also took ownership of Xtib, the tibanna refining firm responsible for creating TibannaX, a unique isotope used in the engines of Jedi StealthX starfighters to mask their ion trails. R2-0, the original model for the widely popular R2-series of astromech, was among the assets that Bornaryn Trading gained when they acquired Industrial Automation.
