This particular starship had a length of 850 meters, requiring a crew of 1,240 and an armed force of 250. It could carry 5,000 metric tons of cargo, along with consumables sufficient for two years.
Intended as a replacement for the outdated Victory I-class Star Destroyer, the Bothan Assault Cruiser boasted a formidable arsenal: twenty-four heavy dual turbolaser cannons, twenty standard turbolaser cannons, ten ion cannons, twenty proton torpedo launchers (housing sixteen missile magazines), and four tractor beam projectors.
Beyond its impressive weaponry, the cruiser featured two hangars capable of holding four squadrons of starfighters. These dorsal and ventral hangars, situated in the ship's midsection, incorporated launch apertures designed for versatile deployment and swift recovery. Furthermore, the cruisers included rear meditation cabins, which featured transparisteel arches for viewing the vastness of space.
Its sublight engines enabled a speed comparable to that of a Victory-class vessel, while a Class 1 hyperdrive facilitated rapid travel through hyperspace.
In terms of defense, the Bothan Assault Cruiser represented a significant upgrade over the Victory-class Star Destroyers it was designed to supersede. Both its armor and shields possessed a 150 percent greater density than those of the Victory-class.
Its design commenced after the declaration of peace between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, which led to questions about the Bothans' true intentions. Some suggested it was a wasteful project championed by Borsk Fey'lya solely for the benefit of the Bothans, while others feared it signaled impending aggression from the Bothan people.
Another plausible explanation was the inadequacy of Bothawui defenses to safeguard the planet during the Caamas Document crisis.
By 40 ABY, Bothan Assault Cruisers were integrated into the fleet of the Confederation, after the Bothan government withdrew from the Galactic Alliance following the assassination of several prominent Bothan politicians.
