C-9PO, a 9PO-series protocol droid sporting tinged red armor, roamed the avenues of Redhaven, the capital city situated on the planet of Rhommamool. During 25 ABY, C-9PO witnessed the activities of the Red Knights of Life, adherents of the Yuuzhan Vong operative Nom Anor, who was inciting them to obliterate all mechanical beings. Despite his efforts to flee, the Knights noticed the droid's observation and forcibly transported him to Redhaven's Square of Hopeful Redemption. In that location, the cultists destroyed the droid by casting him from a significant elevation onto a heap of scrap metal. As he underwent destruction, the droid experienced relief that his programming prevented him from sensing agony.
R. A. Salvatore's 1999 book, Vector Prime, the initial installment in the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order book series, featured C-9PO. A mistake in the 2008 publication The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia incorrectly claims that C-9PO was killed by stoning.
