Cenwick, a culinary herb, was utilized in food preparation. To flavor a sauce intended for bantha meat at Maz Kanata's pirate castle, the Volpai sous-chef Robbs Ely incorporated a hint of cenwick not long before his death. He was killed by the BD-3000 luxury droids J'Nell and Carly. During the investigation into Ely's demise, Strono Tuggs, the castle's head chef, detected the cenwick's presence while examining a sauce sample left as fingerprints on the keypad to Ely's room by one of the droids. Subsequently, chef Jom Jarusch recreated the cenwick-infused sauce using Robbs Ely's recipe book during a cooking contest orchestrated by Tuggs to identify Ely's murderer. This led Tuggs to initially suspect Jarusch, though the chef had merely acquired the recipe book.
The short story "A Recipe for Death," penned by Landry Q. Walker and included in the Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens: Volume I anthology, marked Cenwick's initial introduction. The book saw release on April 5, 2016.
