Chiggnash
The Chiggnash were a sentient species that bore a resemblance to scorpions. This species possessed the capability to manipulate the thoughts of other lifeforms, a talent they sometimes exploited to swiftly amass a disposable army of "warrior drones." Some Chiggnash were known to establish criminal extortion schemes. Among those who hunted for rewards, it was generally understood that facing Chiggnash required specialized strategies due to their mind-control abilities. For example, an electrified smart-harpoon was considered an unsuitable weapon because it would quickly be rendered useless by the sheer number of warrior drones. Likewise, a blaster would only offer a temporary advantage against their swarms.
The Chiggnash criminals named Riley and Banda operated on Nar Shaddaa, the smuggler's moon orbiting Nal Hutta, shortly after the establishment of the Galactic Empire. In 19 BBY, they collaborated with Pacithhip, a docking bay worker named Shnozitskigante-maximilliana, in an attempt to steal from the disguised Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. After confronting Kenobi with Squib tensor rifles and a group of warrior drones, the Chiggnash were instead defeated by the Dark Jedi known as Mei.
Behind the scenes
Brian Daley was the creator of the Chiggnash, who he introduced in his article "Predators of the Empire," which appeared in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 6 in 1996. The article explores the origins and cultural influences of those who hunted for rewards in Star Wars, and its writing style blends both fictional and real-world perspectives. The Chiggnash reference seems to be fictional, and this article has been treated as such.
