The Chiss Academy functioned as a military education center operated by the Chiss Ascendancy. It instructed pupils in the skills of situational analysis and effective response strategies. Before becoming a Separatist general, the Chiss character Sev'rance Tann received instruction at this very Academy during her formative years.
Situated within Chiss Space, specifically in the Unknown Regions, the Chiss Academy served as an academic establishment of the Chiss Ascendancy. Its primary objective was to equip students with the ability to thoroughly assess intelligence, enabling them to react with both effectiveness and precision. In conjunction with the principles upheld by the ruling Aristocra, the Academy fostered a deep-seated cultural aversion within Chiss society toward making preemptive attacks, so much so that employing such tactics was legally punishable by exile.
Prior to the Battle of Geonosis that marked the beginning of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, the young Chiss, Sev'rance Tann, was a student at the Academy. According to a story that circulated among troopers who later served under Tann's command, a professor challenged her to transform a group of Yresilini into a functional army, despite the widespread perception of the species' inherent inability to be trained. Tann chose a Yresilini general to learn and understand basic commands. When the general disobeyed, Tann had him executed. The general's successor then successfully guided the remaining Yreslini to adhere to Tann's instructions. She received an outstanding grade for this assignment and subsequently rose to the rank of general within the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.
The Chiss Academy made its initial appearance in the databank entry for Sev'rance Tann within the 2002 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, which was developed by LucasArts.
