A chieftain of the Wookiee species, Chuundar was the son of the chieftain Freyyr (Freyyr) and sibling to Zaalbar. Born as the smallest of his litter on Kashyyyk, Chuundar sought power and riches. To achieve this, he secretly guided Czerka Corporation agents to Wookiee Hunters within the Shadowlands, with the intent to capture them and sell them into slavery. When Zaalbar, his brother, discovered this betrayal, he confronted Chuundar in a fit of rage, attacking him with his claws. Due to Wookiee tradition, their father was forced to exile Zaalbar from Kashyyyk for being a madclaw. Following this, Chuundar initiated a campaign to spread rumors about Freyyr's supposed madness, eventually usurping his father's position as the leader of the Wookiee tribe.
After successfully taking control, Chuundar established a formal agreement with the Czerka Corporation. He granted them unrestricted access to exploit Kashyyyk's resources, provided they minimized the enslavement of Wookiees. He also traded Wookiee slaves for Czerka weaponry, ensuring that no other Wookiees would dare to oppose his rule. Under the guise of preparing them to resist their enemies more effectively, he compelled his fellow Wookiees to learn Galactic Basic Standard, but his real intention was to make them more compliant.
When Zaalbar, in the company of Revan and his allies, returned to Kashyyyk, Chuundar imprisoned his brother for violating his exile. Chuundar tasked Revan with eliminating an enraged Wookiee exile, who was harassing his Czerka allies in the Shadowlands beneath the planet's massive trees. This Wookiee turned out to be Freyyr. Revan aided Freyyr in recovering Bacca's Ceremonial Blade, a revered and potent weapon for the Wookiees, and then spearheaded a revolt against Chuundar and Czerka. Although Zaalbar attempted to halt the conflict, Chuundar refused to relinquish his power, leading to his death in the ensuing battle.
David Falkner, Steve Gilmour, Casey Hudson, Drew Karpyshyn, James Ohlen, Preston Watamaniuk, and Derek Watts were the minds behind Chuundar, who made his debut appearance in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
The player also has the option of embracing the dark side by siding with Chuundar and assassinating Freyyr. If the dark side path is chosen, the gate to the Wookiee village of Rwookrrorro's is sealed off from the player, but the village can still be reached using the game's rapid transit system.
Chuundar's bowcaster stands out as a unique model enhanced with Czerka modifications, and it becomes one of the spoils of war if the player defeats Chuundar.
