The expansive ring surrounding the Red City of Quethold, a planet situated in the Unknown Regions, was created by the dwellings of the Circling of the Red. These individuals served as both advisers to the city's Queen of the Red and as breeders. During 8 ABY, Trevik, a Quesoth bowlcarrier carrying a bowl filled with nectar for the Queen of the Red, departed from the Queen's Palace en route to his home. On his journey, he passed through the Circling ring, observing the blue sky. Subsequently, an unidentified Circling stopped him and escorted him to the residence of a Midli, the caste responsible for supervising the Workers.
Timothy Zahn penned the novella Crisis of Faith, in 2011, where the Circling ring was featured. This novella was included in the 20th Anniversary Edition of Zahn's 1991 novel, Heir to the Empire.
