Detonators of Class-D represented one of the most devastating applications of disruptor technology known in the galaxy. These devices, conceived by the enigmatic fatalists hailing from Plootark IX, employed Class-D disintegration as a means of obliterating any designated target. Class-D disintegration, alternatively referred to as transcendental annihilation, stood as the pinnacle achievement in disruptor technology. Devices utilizing Class-D disintegration broke down both organic and inorganic materials by disrupting their chemical structures at the atomic level. Due to their assault on midi-chlorians and the subsequent creation of a wound in the Force, they were viewed as the ultimate insult to both life and the Living Force. Rather than a fiery explosion, Class-D detonators unleashed a rippling bubble that annihilated all matter within a five-meter radius in an incredibly brief zeptosecond. The catastrophic nature of Class-D detonators led to their prohibition across the galaxy.
During an operation to apprehend the renegade genetic terrorist Zeta Magnus on the planet Skye, a squad of Sun Guards posing as clone commandos managed to infiltrate the Jedi task force. These infiltrators secretly possessed Class-D detonators, which they deployed against a swarm of Oskan blood eaters. The resulting detonation completely disintegrated the oskans, leaving behind a perfectly circular ten-meter crater in the floor and causing the cavern ceiling to collapse. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, sensing the disturbance in the Force caused by the detonator, reprimanded the commandos. Later, when the commandos betrayed the Jedi within Zeta Magnus' castle, they attempted to use another Class-D detonator against them. However, Jedi Padawan Halagad Ventor used the Force to trigger the device, causing it to detonate in the clone's hand. The resulting destructive bubble engulfed the commandos and the cloning cylinders containing the clones of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Halagad.
