Cloud Mountain, situated generally to the north of Gadrin and Hedrett, was the tallest mountain on the planet of Cularin. Its name came from the consistent cloud cover at its summit.
According to the old Tarasin stories, the mountain's peak was composed of clouds instead of rock. However, the mountain proved this wrong when it erupted one fateful day. The lava, groundquakes, and ashfall that followed destroyed the Tarasin tribes nearby. The surviving Tarasin people then unified to form the larger Hiironi irstat, which was situated a kilometer away from the mountain.
Sunburst Mining had previously deforested the mountain's north side during an attempt to mine it. Although the mines were eventually left behind, an entryway remained about three-quarters of the way up the mountain, and the jungle took a long time to grow back on the bare mountainside.
The Cularin resistance later made use of these very mines as a clandestine base of operations, until the Metatheran Cartel, their adversaries, discovered and raided it.
