The moss-draped Codian Moon existed within the freestanding subsectors of the Mid Rim. This moon was characterized by grasslands and plains composed of wood-moss turf, and it served as the location for several ranches dedicated to the breeding of reeks, which are herbivorous mammals native to the planet of Ylesia.
By 24 BBY, certain ranchers inhabiting the Codian Moon had initiated the practice of breeding and selling their reeks for utilization in gladiatorial combat. During the period of the Clone Wars, the moon maintained a neutral stance, aligning itself with neither the Galactic Republic nor the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Situated in the Codia system, a component of the freestanding subsectors within the Mid Rim, was the Codian Moon, a terrestrial moon. Its surface was largely blanketed by moss, and its topography included verdant grasslands covered in moss, along with expansive plains of wood-moss turf.

Originally, reeks on the Codian Moon were bred for the purpose of providing meat and as beasts of burden, or pack animals. However, some unscrupulous ranchers, along with members of the Geonosian species that was native to the Outer Rim Territories planet of Geonosis, eventually came to the realization that by supplementing the reeks' diet with meat and intermittently starving them, they could amplify the creatures' aggression and awaken carnivorous tendencies. With declining revenues and dwindling resources on the Codian Moon, some of the moon's ranchers started to breed and sell their reeks for use in gladiatorial arenas by 24 BBY. This included the Petranaki arena on Geonosis, where a reek hailing from the Codian Moon had been in service for years by the year 22 BBY.
As of 20 BBY, the Codian Moon had not yet decided whether to align itself with either of the warring factions in the Clone Wars: the Galactic Republic or the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Around 25 ABY, the Codia system had a population of fewer than one million inhabitants. Sometime after 36 ABY, the Codian Moon was mentioned in a guide that detailed various species found in the galaxy, based on the research notes of sentientologist Mammon Hoole.
The Codian Moon gained notoriety for its collection of ranches, which were used for breeding reeks. These large, quadrupedal, herbivorous mammals were originally native to Hutt Space world Ylesia, and were often bred after many herds of the creatures had been transplanted from the latter location. Due to the scarcity of resources, particularly wood-moss, on the Codian Moon compared to Ylesia, the smaller reek herds exhibited heightened territorial behavior over their selected patches of wood-moss turf.

The Codian Moon was initially referenced in the 2002 reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary, penned by David West Reynolds. The spelling "Codian moon" was also used in one instance within the StarWars.com Databank entry pertaining to the reek.
The New Essential Guide to Alien Species, published in 2006, asserted that the Codian Moon was a natural satellite orbiting Ylesia. This contradicted the 1997 novel The Paradise Snare, which explicitly stated that Ylesia possessed no moons. It also conflicted with prior sources that placed the moon in the trailing direction from both the world Cerea and Ylesia in Hutt Space, on the opposite side of the galaxy.
The information presented in The New Essential Guide to Alien Species was definitively superseded by the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, which situated the Codia system within grid square H-15, trailing from the Cerean system. This placement aligned with the information from sources predating 2006 and was subsequently reiterated by later sources.
