Colicoid cargo ship

Rather than being designed with aesthetics in mind, Colicoid cargo ships were enormous, practical vessels constructed for maximum utility and ingenuity. Their Colicoid designers prioritized cargo capacity over living space, enabling them to transport more goods than any other type of freighter, transport, or container ship throughout the galaxy. The ceilings, though they obstructed light, were also equipped with delicately woven durasteel nets to suspend cargo boxes, resulting in a generally claustrophobic and gloomy environment. It goes without saying that space for anything other than freight transport was severely limited.

Even Colicoid diplomatic ships were simply cargo ships repurposed for diplomatic duties. Consequently, anyone traveling on these ships should abandon any expectations of luxury or beauty, as cabins and common areas were deliberately small and strangely shaped, often squeezed into unused corners. The ships' appearance, at best, could only be described as unattractive.

In 29 BBY, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his 13-year-old Padawan Anakin Skywalker embarked on a mission to protect one such Colicoid cargo vessel from an attack by the slave raider [Krayn] (/article/krayn)—the Jedi duo's presence indicated that the freighter, piloted by Captain Anf Dec, was being used as a diplomatic barge. They shared a confined cabin with narrow sleep-couches.

Behind the scenes

In the Jedi Quest comic series, Jude Watson's depiction of the Colicoid ship, originally intended as a cargo vessel that was then converted to a diplomatic ship, instead shows it as a standard Republic Corellian Consular-class diplomatic cruiser.
