Combine-reaper

The Gevion combine-reaper is under siege by the Sauvax. Often referred to as a harvester, a combine-reaper was a sizable, tracked vehicle utilized by the Human colonists of the planet Leritor. These vehicles served a dual purpose: cultivating and harvesting crops, as well as providing living space. These harvesters were capable of both tilling the soil and immediately sowing seeds in the freshly plowed earth; they were also equipped to gather mature crops at a later time.

A combine-reaper consisted of several levels or decks. These included: The primary planting and harvesting machinery, situated directly above the massive continuous tracks; immediately above this, were bins for storing the harvested crops, along with packaging machines for processing them; further up, two additional decks housed the living quarters for the crew; and finally, a control cabin that protruded from the uppermost deck. The rear section of the combine-reaper also featured an external landing platform, enabling visiting freighters to land directly on the harvester to collect the harvested crops.

Reflecting the peaceful nature of the settlers, the combine-reapers were not equipped with any weaponry.

Given their long-range capabilities, the majority of the Human settlers on Leritor resided within these nomadic combine-reapers. A permanent planetary capital existed on the largest continent, functioning primarily as an expanding depot that each combine-reaper visited annually for resupply and maintenance.

The Human settlers and the indigenous Sauvax species established a Settlement Pact that prohibited Humans and other off-world entities (including combine-reapers) from approaching the coastline inhabited by the Sauvax. In subsequent years, some Sauvax made contact with roaming combine-reapers, mainly for cultural exchange and trade.

Combine-reapers were given individual names. Examples of known combine-reapers include the Nellist, which was targeted by Profex Rynalla, and the Gevion, which was subsequently attacked by the Sauvax in a misguided response to Rynalla's later actions.
