The Comet Broom Service, also known as Comet Broom, functioned as a corporate entity within the Cularin system as the Galactic Republic drew to a close.
The primary function of the Comet Broom Service was to ensure the safety of shipping lanes through the treacherous Cularin comet cloud. This involved the destruction of wayward comets that threatened established routes, as well as the provision of crucial astrometric data to Cularin SpaceNav to facilitate safe passage. On occasion, they would also use detonite or mines to change the trajectories of large comets.
The company maintained a workforce of approximately 40 permanent employees, supplemented by 60 temporary staff members, operating from its base of operations on Artom Station. It sometimes outsourced work to their competitor, Comet Busters.
The Comet Broom Service was under the leadership of the Wookiees named Mronk and Rroorgli. During the period known as the Clone Wars, the Dark Jedi Garth Ezzar, under the guise of Jedi Master Lanius Qel-Bertuk, engaged the services of the two Wookiees to initiate the Cometary Water Reclamation Project. The stated goal of this project was to direct a comet into the atmosphere of the planet Almas to augment its water content, though Ezzar harbored ulterior motives.
Ezzar intentionally introduced an error into the data provided by the Service. This resulted in damage to the freighter Fricasseed Nerf, prompting the heroes of Cularin to launch an investigation. They journeyed to Artom Station and spoke with Mronk and Rroorgli, who assured them that the data provided was accurate.
Shortly thereafter, Garth Ezzar committed the murders of Mronk and Rroorgli. Their corpses were discovered by a Comet Broom security team, which subsequently imposed a lockdown on all traffic to and from the station, pending an investigation into the deaths.
