Comm station
A communications station, alternatively referred to as a comm booth, comm station, or comm board, served as a facility for people to transmit and receive communications.
Description
A comm station provided a location for individuals to transmit messages. Some of these booths, at least, could send transmissions to another planet in real-time. The starship Coruscant Dawn contained a comm board that illuminated similarly to a Solstice tree.
The holobooth operated in a comparable way, but it also incorporated a hologram for communication, as did communications relays.
History
Comm booths were present at the Arkanis Academy on Arkanis, but their usage was heavily controlled by its supervisor, Commandant Brendol Hux, who believed that communicating with those outside the academy was harmful to military training. Consequently, he only permitted cadets at the academy a single 15-minute session each month and supervised the transmissions. When Zare Leonis wanted a more private conversation, he followed the suggestion of his fellow cadet, Penn Zarang, and went to Jasko's in Scaparus Port. Jasko, a former cadet, liked to annoy Hux by offering unmonitored comm services, although his fees were a bit high.
